29 Apr Cyber Threats Don’t Always Arrive The Way You Expect, April 2026
April already — and for many businesses, the start of a new financial year. A good time to take stock, reset, and make sure the right things are in place going forward. One thing that never takes a break, unfortunately, is cybercrime. Time and time again, we see how even the most unexpected situations can expose a business to risk. This month is a perfect example of that.
In this edition: a case study that will make you think twice about website browsing, a free tool worth bookmarking, an industry breach worth knowing about, and a quick look at what we have been up to.
As always, if anything raises a question about your own setup, just give us a call.
Case Study – She Just Wanted Her Eyebrows Done
A member of staff at a London removals company visited a beauty salon website on a work computer. Something felt off. They stopped and called us straight away.
Good thing too. The site had been infected with card-stealing malware — and it could have been a very different outcome.
Service Update: Geolocking and Conditional Access
Did you know you can restrict access to your business systems based on location? Geolocking means that if someone tries to log in to your systems from outside the UK, or from an unexpected country, access is automatically blocked.
Paired with conditional access policies, which control who can access what, from which devices, and under what conditions, this adds a powerful layer of protection that most businesses are not yet using.
Ask us about setting this up for your organisation.
It is simpler than it sounds and makes a real difference to your security posture.
💡Tech Tip:
Check a Website Before You Click
Not sure whether a website is safe to visit? There is a free tool that can tell you in seconds.
Go to: www.virustotal.com and paste the URL.
VirusTotal will scan it against dozens of security engines and tell you whether it has been flagged as malicious, suspicious, or clean
It is particularly useful if something looks slightly wrong, an unfamiliar link arrives by email, or a website behaves oddly. Takes about ten seconds and could save you a serious headache.
Bookmark it. You will thank yourself later.

10 Million Dating Records Leaked — and Why MFA Matters
Match Group, the company behind Hinge, OkCupid, and Match.com, was hit by a major data breach — and Bumble and CrunchBase were caught in the same coordinated campaign. What makes this one stand out is how it was done. No sophisticated malware or technical wizardry. Just attackers impersonating IT support staff and tricking employees into handing over their login credentials.
It is a good reminder that the weakest link in any security setup is rarely the technology. It is the human on the other end of the phone.
Why MFA Matters
Most of these platforms offer multi-factor authentication (MFA). It is available. It is free. And most people never turn it on.
MFA means that even if your password is compromised, attackers still cannot access your account without a second verification step. Two minutes to set up, and it makes a real difference.
If you have not switched MFA on across your business accounts — email, Microsoft 365, cloud storage — let us know. We can walk you through it.
