Physical & Digital Security in Focus, August 2025

As summer rolls on, it’s a good time to take stock of your IT setup and make sure you’re staying ahead of the changes coming your way. This month, we’ve pulled together key updates, a real-life security case study, and even a glimpse of the Transpeed team enjoying some well-earned downtime.

💻 Windows 10 – time’s running out

It’s a reminder you’ve probably seen before, but it bears repeating: Windows 10 support ends in October 2025.

After that date, Microsoft will stop releasing security patches and updates, leaving any machines still on Windows 10 exposed to new threats.

⚠️ If you’ve still got Windows 10 machines in use, it’s time to plan your upgrade to Windows 11.

Not sure where to start? We can help assess compatibility, plan replacements, and make the transition smooth.

🔍 The day a grand piano was stolen….

If a bloke in a leather jacket carrying a bike helmet said he was a courier, would you let him in? What if someone turned up with a ladder and claimed they were there to fix something?

You might be surprised how often people don’t ask questions.

We’ve seen it happen: at a prestigious South London college, thieves once made off with a grand piano with security guards unknowingly helping them load it into a van.

Physical security is as important as digital security. From visitor logs to penetration testing, it’s worth asking: how easy would it be for someone to bluff their way into your systems?

🌐 Tech tip: Update your browser weekly

We recommend using Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser and keeping them up to date. It takes seconds:

  1. Click the three dots in the top right
  2. Select Help > About
  3. Let it update automatically
  4. Restart if prompted, your tabs will restore

Do this at least once a week. It’s quick, and it helps close security holes before attackers can exploit them.

Tech News:
📧 Outlook New is coming (like it or not)

Love it or hate it (and yes, we know many of you aren’t fans), Microsoft is pushing forward with Outlook New. Support for Outlook Classic ends in October, and the changes go beyond just a different interface.

🚫 Public Folders will disappear. If your business still uses them, you’ll need to migrate that data before the deadline.

This isn’t just a facelift—it’s a major change to the way Outlook works. Don’t leave it until the last minute.

This month, the Transpeed team took a break from patching, upgrading, and problem-solving to enjoy some time together at our summer barbecue.
