Hope May has treated you well. We have had a busy one and wanted to make sure this reached you.

Every now and then a story comes along that is the perfect reminder of why getting your IT setup right matters. We recently got one of those that is both alarming and reassuring in equal measure. We are also looking at a newly discovered vulnerability in BitLocker that every Windows user should know about and that Windows already has a fix for this.

Case Study – They Stole the Laptops. They Got Nothing.

A London solicitors firm we support arrived at the office one morning to find they had been broken into overnight. Eight laptops had been stolen.

For any business, that is a frightening situation. For a solicitors firm handling sensitive and confidential client data, the stakes are even higher.

But here is the thing — it did not end the way the thieves expected.

💡Tech Tip:
Lock Your Screen in One Second

Whenever you step away from your desk, even just for a coffee or a comfort break, lock your screen immediately.

Press Windows key + L. That is it.

Your screen locks instantly and requires your password or biometric to get back in.

It takes one second and removes the risk of someone walking past and accessing your machine while you are away. Make it a habit.

Simple. Fast. One of the easiest security habits you can build.

BitLocker Can Be Bypassed. But Microsoft Has a Fix

BitLocker, the encryption tool built into Windows, is one of the most widely used ways to protect data on laptops and desktops. This month, a security researcher publicly disclosed a vulnerability called YellowKey that shows it can be bypassed.

The exploit requires physical access to the machine, a specially crafted USB drive, and the ability to reboot into Windows Recovery Mode. It affects Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 and 2025. Windows 10 is not affected.

Microsoft moved quickly.

A mitigation has already been released and the vulnerability is now tracked as CVE-2026-45585. Importantly, Microsoft is recommending that businesses switch from TPM-only BitLocker to TPM with a PIN. This means a PIN is required to decrypt the drive at startup, which blocks this type of attack entirely.

If your devices are running BitLocker, this is worth acting on. We can review your current setup and make sure you are properly protected. This is exactly the kind of thing we stay on top of so you do not have to.

Service Update: Phone System Migration — Done Right

We recently completed a full phone system migration for a large London removals and logistics company — carried out during a normal working day with zero downtime.

Migrations like this take careful planning and solid failover contingencies. By getting every detail right in advance, we were able to switch the business over to a modern phone system without interrupting a single hour of trading.

The new system opens up a range of features that were not available before: richer call management, flexible home working options, and modern tools that give the team far more control over how they communicate day to day.

If your phone system is ageing or not working as hard as it should, get in touch. We can advise on the best options for your business and manage the whole process from start to finish.
